A Block Calling Out To Me

Crosscheck…

I saw this quilt made up in a cute little shop and  just had to put my other projects aside because I couldn’t stop thinking about how adorable this block is… it is called Crosscheck by Fig Tree & Co

Strawberry Fields Revisted and Farmhouse fabric

Imagine how cute this could be using all of the Fig Tree and Co fabrics!!!  This is on the back burner right now, but look forward to getting back to it!

An arrow points the way

Looking for a new quilt pattern is a process for me.  It requires a lot of Pinteresting, instagraming, more pinteresting, looking through my books and narrowing down the dozens and dozens of choices.  I wanted to pick a pattern that was easy and would come together quickly…but needed to be super cute!  This arrow quilt won my vote and I think it was a good pick!

Arrow Quilt

So many steps…takes patience and love

I tried a number of different layouts for these blocks but this is by far the best layout!

I added a few extra blocks because I love a larger baby quilt…it helps when those cute babies start rolling around!

So far in my quilting journey I have done my own machine quilting…I keep it simple for sure!  I thought I would just do vertical lines, but realized quickly that my blocks didn’t line up perfectly and that bugged me, so luckily I had only done two rows of quilting…un-pick!!

Diagonal is the way to go…and besides that I have found that my favorite sewing foot is my Walking Foot!!

Now we just have to wait for baby Corbett to arrive!

Love Letters Quilt

Better late then never to post this super cute Love Letters Quilt! When I came across this I knew I had to make it! FullSizeRender

It was perfect for my Valentine’s day get together with my friends! It was so easy and only took me a few days to complete. Partly because I like to work on multiple projects at the same time.  All the hearts are hand stitched with a blanket stitch onto 5 inch block.  It was so fun to do this part!

IMG_0304The  quilting was done on my machine. I traced each heart onto the fabric with a Disappearing Ink pen, and then used my machine and followed the lines. It was probably the most time consuming part of this quilt.

The process was so fun all along the way and I just think it turned out so cute! Love the detail!

Whats in my sewing room

So I got a new camera this week…I have always loved taking photos and my old camera was having issues, so I saved for a new one and my sweet husband made up the difference!!  Now I am practicing my photography skills with my new Olympus OM D mark II.  I am feeling a little torn between wanting to sew and wanting to get lost in my camera, but in the end…my camera and my sewing projects go hand in hand.  These  shots are just a few things that surround me in my sewing room, I call it my “happy place”!

This Oliso Pro is a “must have”!!  I was in the market for a new iron and it seemed that every  quilting “HOW TO” tutorial,  they had this iron, so my thoughts were this…load me up with the best tools and I perhaps I will be a fabulous quilter??!!  Anyway, if you are in the market for an iron check out the Oliso…it also comes in PINK!!!  Mine was purchased on Amazon and was one of my favorite Christmas gifts.

Best Press is another must…keeps your blocks crisp without being stiff!

This is a pile of pieces waiting to be ironed and sewn together…more to come on that project!

This is my collection of books, magazines and printed block patterns! You just never know what mood you will be in and what quilt is calling your name!

All of these can be purchased on Amazon also…there are some great books and magazines, find your style and trust me…you look through it again and again.

This picture isn’t very sharp, but I love my little scissors for piecing.  I need to make a cute little block to set on my sewing machine so I don’t scratch up the arm with the tip of the scissors.

I didn’t take photos of the fabric I have in drawers!! It’s a fabric obsession sickness…at least I am not in denial!

This is a coziest leather recliner ever!! It’s for visitors, but mostly to lay out my projects so they aren’t on the floor.

My very favorite toy and prize possession…my Bernina 750QE

So this is the story behind this machine…After living in Seattle for 14 years, raising our four children and finally empty nesting, Don gets asked (strongly strongly encouraged) to move to the Bay area to “fix” those offices that are struggling.  I was not a happy camper…I would be leaving my grand babies and that was just not working for me.  This machine was, bribery…

I have loved every minute sewing with it and recommend ANY Bernina to anyone!  I am Bernina loyal!  I received my first Bernina 830 when I was 16 years old as a gift from my mom, I still own it and love it.  I should pass it down to one of my girls, but not until I see they have found the inter-sewer in them!

I love genealogy and family search

If we know where we came from, we may better know where to go.

If we know who we came from, we may better understand who we are.

I have my hands in a few projects…sewing, knitting, family search, 52 week project…those are just the ones I took pictures of!

Stroller Quilt

Christmas is over and put away, finished quilts have been gifted and now its a new year and new quilts await!!  I decided my first quilt for the year would be simple and easy.  Whats more simple than this…a stroller quilt.  I love this fabric from the Sweetwater Feed Company and think it is perfect for any little boy needing to snuggle.  I don’t have anyone in mind, but Donald and Emma are expecting!  Personal feeling is that they are having another little girl, but that’s just me!  I think I might make up a few of this size quilt for little gifts.  I love that they make up so quick and just look so adorable!!

Once all the pieces are cut, sewn and pressed…start laying them out.  Decide how you want it to look and start sewing them all together.  I did this in two days, just love it!

Totally Faking Sleep

Quentin really is a ham and is very good at faking sleep…Grandpa plays along anytime too!
We took Christmas to Seattle early as it was our “Off” year.  I did want to see the kids open their quilts though.  Hillary says that he sleeps with it every night.

This is not a fake and just look how very sweet that is…so worth all the hours of cutting, sewing and unpicking and sewing some more!

Time for new shirts

Andrew has been in the mission field just over a year and its time for a few new shirts…I hope he loves these, I do!!  I wanted him to know every day that he is supported, loved and thought of as he is buttoning his shirt or pressing it.

This is where I got the words to say on the shirts, The Missionary Commission by Bruce R. McConkie…

For Baby Audrey

I fell in love with this fabric by 3 Sisters, Whitewashed Cottage…isn’t it adorable!!! Shabby chic is how I would describe it.  I am in the process of quilting and binding…I will post the completed quilt soon!!!
As soon as Hillary said she was pregnant I had a feeling it was a girl so I took a leap of faith and started sewing!!
