The rest of the story…

I am not sure I can tie this all together the way I feel like it should be, but here goes.  Number one…this was an easy peesy pattern right!  That’s one of the reasons I chose it, however, for some reason I could not get it right.  I unpicked these squares at least 3 times each.  I kept wondering to myself, “what is wrong with you that you can’t get these hearts in the right direction and lined up correctly”.  Of course that conversation was happening as I was UNPICKING!  Well as it turned out, I think that 2, maybe 3 of the hearts still ended up being turned the wrong direction, whatever, I am over this right!!  Did I mention, this pattern choice was not my first.  I had a completely different pattern picked out and fabric bought, but I just wasn’t feeling it.  That’s how I ended up with the heart quilt also.

Well little Olivia was born and a couple of hours later Donald and Emma found themselves in unfamiliar territory, as she was being life flighted to Cooks Children’s Hospital as they discovered 2 heart issues that were going to require emergency heart surgery.

Can you see the correlation to this quilt and the life issues in front of us?  My mind and heart were trying to understand and comprehend that the Lord had everything to do with what I thought was a simple baby quilt.  Olivia’s two heart issues and the two heart mishaps on the quilt.  Is that a coincidence?  First of all, I don’t believe in coincidences.  I believe 100% that God is in the details of our lives and His hand and influence is every present.

Olivia’s heart issues were repaired and she is doing great.  She has health issues that will be with her her whole life, but they are manageable.  She has Turners Syndrome, so as she grows, doctors will always be a part of her life.

We feel blessed everyday for modern medicine, talented doctors and nurses and the knowledge that God knows us and is involved in our lives.  So grateful for the knowledge.

Here are some sweet pictures of our miss Olivia…

A Whale of a Day….

The greatest part of living in the Pacific Northwest is the vast variety of activities to do…from the Puget Sound to the mountains and every lake in between.  Weekends can be filled with day trips and memory making events. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAfullsizeoutput_45e1fullsizeoutput_45e6OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

What a perfect day

The sun was out, the wind was low, which makes it a perfect day in the PNW!

What a charming Island to spend a Saturday afternoon on.  We came for Orca’s, but none to be found this trip.  The Blue Whales did not disappoint however and what about the Bald Eagels flying over head.  Literally doesn’t get better than this.

President Nelson’s 4 Challenges in

Women’s Session 2018

1. Participate in a 10-day fast from social media

and any other media which may produce

negative and impure thoughts. Notice and

record changes, experiences and impressions

during this time. “The effect of your 10-day

fast may surprise you.”

2. Read the Book of Mormon between now and

the end of the year and mark each verse

which refers to the Savior. Doing so will invite

blessings of increased inspiration, revelation

and miracles by bringing you closer to the

Savior.

3. Attend the temple regularly and make it a

habit. Time in the temple will “teach you how

to draw upon His priesthood power with

which you have been endowed in His

temple.”

4. Participate more fully in Relief Society and

study the current Relief society statement of

purpose. Doing so will help women to better

understand their purpose at this precise time

and their role in the gathering of Israel.

Hillary made this 85 day reading schedule and President Nelson’s Challenge.  I washi taped them inside these Books of Mormon and gave them to the sisters I minister to.

What is it about Mountains?

Favorite shots_20171030_IMG_1886Matthew 5:1 ….”and seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain and when he was set, his disciples came unto him…”

This sermon was/is meant only for those who were willing to ascend to it.

The first lesson of the Sermon on the Mount is the realization that a true disciple must go to the Lord to receive the message.

It is the choice of each individual. A journey. One has to come unto Christ to receive the lesson needed for the journey toward discipleship, the outline for who he or she might become.

Once we physically move to Christ then we can spiritually come to Christ by applying the beatitudes.

Another thought…

…moving to Christ  may mean that we have to give something up, leave things/persons behind, remove ourselves from something (fleeing).  What is it that holds us back from coming to Christ?

In the Book of Mormon Mosiah 18:1….”And now, it came to pass that Alma, who had fled from the servants of King Noah, repented of his sins and iniquities, and went about privately among the people, and began to teach the words of Abinadi–

In that moment that Alma fled, everything changed for him.  The course of his life changes forever.  He was ready and willing to ascend and come unto Christ.

Who else has FLED or ASCENDED the mountain to Come unto Christ….

Moses:   Exodus 3;1,  Exodus 4:27 and Exodus 24:12-13 …And the Lord said unto Moses, Come up to me… don’t you just love that, it is a special invitation to Moses and I believe it is extended to each of us…”come up to me…”

The Brother of Jared:   Ether 3:1 carried the stones he had molten out of a rock to the mount of the Lord

One of my favorites...I Nephi 11:1 & I Nephi 17:7

Nephi was caught away in an exceeding high mountain to see a vision , then instructed to “arise, and get thee into the mountain.  I ponder on those words and wonder, do I watch for and prepare for high mountain experiences??  (That will be a study to come!)

There are many examples in the scriptures of the journey that others went through to Come unto Christ.  The one thing that I do know, is that it is not a destination, it’s the direction we are moving.

Time and time again the scriptures tell us that Christ himself, went up into the mountain…where is your mountain?  Where is that holy space where you turn to Him?

Pumpkin Pumpkin who likes Pumpkin

I feel SUPER domesticated…Look at me baking pie pumpkins to make my own pumpkin puree.

I am scouring recipes from Smitten Kitchen this month.  I love everything fall and pumpkin, so it was just meant to be that I try my hand at homemade pumpkin.

Completely surprised at how easy this process was!!

Now lets get to the Pumpkin Bread, again by Smitten Kitchen….the magic is in fresh spices

It turned out so goooooood!!  Now I need to find some friends to share it with so I don’t eat it all by myself…that could be troublesome to my waistline.

Lemons anyone?

Who knew that lemons are hard to find right now…4 stores later and tadaa, I have lemons.  Apparently a heat wave in California is causing a lemon and lime shortage…I had no idea.

Don’t they just look good enough to eat:)
